I am a craft designer and ceramicist who takes inspiration from the structures and movement inherent within natural forms. I enjoy both the pliability and limitations that working with clay offers and I am very material driven.
So often I have an idea about what I am creating and then it alters as the clay offers me new ideas and possibilities. It is never a battle of wills but instead each piece is a discovery about my chosen medium and its endless potential.
My pieces are often finished using smoke marking techniques rather than glazes. I prefer the more primitive marks that fire and smoke produce. Once the final pieces are polished, the effect is one of natural scaring and age.
