DYSLEXIA - Focus on disABILITY
The above video, Dyslexia, Changing Perceptions is based on an Article I ROTE for the British Dyslexia Association Handbook for last years BDA Handbook. It took over two months to write and two days to film and edit.
Whilst I made the 4 min arty film, to the right, for the channel 4 web site in 2005. I had started my Visual Jazz paintings but felt that I needed to break off and make this film. It was supposed to be one last attempt to Change the Shape of the wHOLE (see image at bottom of page) before I “made it” as a painter.
Some years on and any chance of making the inclusive national awareness FILM and Web Site seem gone - I spent 12 hard years on the issue and I am proud of what I have achieved. I’ve done all I can to change things for the better and hopefully inspired many fellow dyslexics to believe in themselves.
However, a real lack of understanding of what it is to be dyslexic still exists in society. Small changes in education, prison and employment policy would save the country billions and transform so many peoples lives. This will only come through the input of many many more dyslexics.
Please feel free to use anything from this page (reference the web site if you use in public please).

Dyslexia Focus on Ability. Oil on canvas 1.50 m x 1.20m.
I gave this as a Gift to Dyslexia Foundation, Liverpool after the government departments I had offered it to did not want it...
I made this ideogram around 2000/01 and it just about sums it up! The Dyslexia Institute (Dyslexia Action) used it as a front cover of one of their publications and it has been used internationaly by many others who also want to see positive changes in education for dyslexic thinkers.
