Dyslexic...

DYSLEXIA - Focus on Ability

The above video, Dyslexia, Changing Perceptions is based on an Article I ROTE for the British Dyslexia Association Handbook 2009 for this years BDA Handbook. The BDA have streamed this film also, so thank you to them! BDA WEB SITE

I made the 4 min arty film, to the right, for the channel 4 web site in 2005. I had started my Visual Jazz paintings but felt that I needed to break off and make this film. It was supposed to be one last attempt to Change the Shape of the wHOLE (see image at bottom of page) before I “made it” as a painter.

Five years on and I would still jump at the chance of making the inclusive national awareness FILM and Web Site that is so very overdue (we prefer pictures over words. So please let us inform each other). I have spent TEN hard years on the issue now and I am proud of what I have achieved. I’ve done all I can to change things for the better and hopefully inspired many fellow dyslexics to believe in themselves.

However, a real lack of understanding of what it is to be dyslexic still exists in society. I, like many other dyslexics, could do so much more if only we were to be included at policy level. Small changes in education, prison and employment policy would save the country billions and transform so many peoples lives.

I have the key… will anybody enable me to use it? Mike Juggins 2010

Dyslexia Focus on Ability. Oil on canvas 1.50 m x 1.20m.

I gave this as a Gift to Adult Dyslexia Access, Liverpool after the government departments I had offered it to did not want it...

I made this ideogram around 2000/01 and it just about sums it up! The Dyslexia Institute (Dyslexia Action) used it as a front cover of one of their publications and it has been used internationaly by many others who also want to see positive changes in education for dyslexic thinkers.

A film maker talks... March 2010

I made this video after coming back to Devon from Liverpool this March. I filmed 8 adult dyslexics in 2003 and had gone back to catch up on the guys. (films online soon at ADA site!)

I know I look rough but hey so would you after lugging a whole film recording unit on your back for days lol

I learnt so much from the journey. Wonderful dyslexics all...

The road has been long but the end is in sight. So I keep pushing for positive change in all I do!
